The most frequently asked questions about the Drei Zinnen Alpine Run and its organization are answered here.

What is the precise route?

The route extends over 17 km, the first 8-9 km on level ground, partly on tarmac and partly on forestry tracks. The ascent starts from km 9. From the Rifugio Fondo Valle the route continues on a hiking track. The hiking tracks is NOT closed during the race. It is therefore possible that runners come across the occasional hiker. There are only few exposed places. Mountain rescue teams are always positioned within sight.

Where is the finish? Do runners have to walk back down into the valley?

The finish is at Dreizinnenhütte at an altitude of 2,405 m. Runners have to walk back down into the valley.

Is there a spectator shuttle?

There is a shuttle for spectators, although there is still a short distance to walk to get to the finish area (1.5 hours).

What happens in bad weather?

The race takes place in all weather. In the case of fog or bad weather an alternative route the track goes on Helm/Monte Elmo in order to ensure the complete safety of all participants.

Are hiking poles permitted?

Hiking poles are not permitted.

How do the clothes bags get to the finish?

Clothes bags are taken to the finish by helicopter.

Who receives prize money?

Prize money will be given to the first 10 men and the first 10 women of the overall ranking.

Will the start fee be reimbursed if a participant doesn’t show? Are there any exceptions?

The start fee is only reimbursed if a relevant cancellation insurance has been taken out.

On presentation of a doctor’s note the start place can be credited for 1 year.

Swapping the start place with someone else incurs a processing fee.

What kind of shoes are suitable?

Sports shoes with a good profile for outside use are necessary. Indoor shoes are not recommended.

How fit do runners have to be?

The Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run requires a very good physical condition. To consider: 17 km, 1,333 m of altitude to overcome, finish at an altitude of about 2,400 m.

Can athletes suffer from vertigo?

Athletes should definitely not suffer from vertigo.
